Bottle Opener

We started this project by looking at pictures of conventional bottle openers. We then were inspired by the method of using a spoon to open a bottle. However, we realized that the spoon opening method requires two parts which would be extremely hard to create.

Our second idea was to create a cap for the bottle cap that we could use to twist the cap off. We realized that would not work because it is hard to create gears on solid works.

This was a much longer and harder process than I originally though it would be. How hard could it be to make a bottle opener? extremely hard.

We proceeded to go through at least 5 designs all of which ended up not working. We finally decided to use the functions that have worked for years but make it into a cute alligator/dinosaur. We also decided to try and have it stand up hence the flat bottom. Whether it will actually stand up is questionable.

We also might add a second bottle opener function at the hand of the alligator by making it into more of a claw than a hand.

Most of the alligator was made by free-drawing on solid works. It was an extremely long and difficult process to dimension everything and make all of the blue lines turn black.

Hopefully the bottle opener will work and no more iterations will be needed. Fingers crossed!
